.. .

Another attractive thing in Biar is its gastronomy. Biar, co-worker with the University of Alicante, has an interesting gastronomy, such as, its pastries and sweets. Another relevant issue is its traditional craftsmanship, as for instance its pottery mixed with glass. In our town, you may visit the facilities where the crafts are made, a famous workshop from the XV century. The Ethnographic museum is worth a visit, where you will find objects related to the history of Biar, its customs and cfraftsmanship.

•Old-style bars and restaurants

Biar has a good number of restaurants, taverns and old-style bars. There, you can taste our gastronomy, local succulent meals, Mediterranean and international food. Some exquisite delicacies are remarkable among a wide range of meals, especially, those choices where you can taste the pleasant Mediterranean flavour.

One of the best choices is the paella. It is cooked in several ways, though the most singular one is the paella with vegetables and meat. “Soggy” rice (rice cooked in a delicious stock) is also a good choice. The well known Alicantine gazpacho is cooked in Biar too. In our town is cooked with hare or rabbit and “pebrella” ( aromatic herbs and spices). The “olleta” is also a local meal.

In the “Moros y Cristianos” festival, the Biar population makes a varied and nice selection of pastries. However, you can find those products at the traditional bakeries (cooked on a fire) the rest of the year. We must stress in this section some local products such as kirsch pastries, fairy cakes, “coquetas” and sweet pastries. The local rosemary honey is also very well appreciated. Likewise, we have to emphasize the familiar “turrón” (nougat) tradition ( type of candy traditionally eaten at Christmas), and a famous family that has supplied the Spanish Royal Family for a long time.
